Going for Hajj in 2025? Do These 10 Things Before You Leave
The opportunity to perform Hajj is a divine invitation an experience that transforms the heart, mind, and soul. If you’re
Embarking on the sacred journey of Hajj begins with more than just physical travel it starts with a spiritual commitment and a state of purity known as Ihram. For every pilgrim, understanding the rules and significance of this state is essential for a valid and rewarding pilgrimage.
At Jiyad Travels, we’re committed to helping you every step of the way. Here’s what you need to know before stepping into Ihram.
Before entering Makkah for Hajj, pilgrims must pass through specific boundary points known as Miqat. It is at this stage that the pilgrim declares their Niyyah (intention) for Hajj. This act transforms one’s journey into an act of worship, marking the official beginning of the pilgrimage rituals.
🕋 Tip: Know your Miqat location in advance and be spiritually prepared before crossing it.
Once Niyyah is declared at Miqat, the pilgrim enters a special state called Ihram, symbolizing purity, humility, and devotion. This state comes with specific rules that must be respected until the completion of Umrah or Hajj rites.
To maintain spiritual purity during Ihram, both men and women must avoid the following actions:
❌ Removing body hair
❌ Cutting nails
❌ Engaging in sexual activity or flirtatious behavior
❌ Using perfumes or scented products
❌ Hunting animals
These restrictions remind pilgrims to detach from worldly distractions and focus fully on their spiritual journey.
❌ Wearing stitched or sewn clothing – Instead, men must wear two unstitched white cloths.
❌ Covering the head
❌ Wearing closed shoes – Sandals or footwear that leaves the ankles exposed are preferred.
❌ Covering the face – While women are not required to uncover their hair, covering the face is not permitted during Ihram.
❌ Wearing gloves
Women should dress modestly and comfortably, in attire that meets the Islamic guidelines, but without violating the Ihram restrictions.
Remaining in Ihram requires discipline, awareness, and sincerity. These restrictions are not burdensome—they are a gateway to deeper reflection and humility before Allah. They help pilgrims shift focus from the material to the spiritual, embodying the essence of Hajj.
